Daily prune consumption should now be considered a valid strategy for preventing and treating osteoporosis!
A study suggested that daily consumption of dried plums improves bone mineral density (BMD) by inhibiting the rate of bone turnover.
A group of Postmenopausal women at a high risk of osteoporosis ate 100 grams a day of dried plums, while the other group consumed the same amount of dried apples. The consumption of dried plums correlated with a significant increase of bone mineral density in the ulna and spine, and with decreased serum levels of bone turnover markers.
