About the Site:
This Russian-English Agricultural Atlas is a detailed account of the distribution of plant-based agriculture in Russia and the countries that surround it. There are over a thousand maps illustrating the geography of various crops, their relatives, and wild diseases, and the site also provides the user with biological information, important data, and reference lists for ease of use. It can be used in many ways; for example, people can work out which crops will grow best in which places, and the types of pests and diseases that are likely to be encountered.
About the Organization:
The information is a result of a large team of Russian scientists working with the USDA, and the project lasted from 2003-2009. The organizations that funded the work were the USDA, Agricultural Research Service, and Office of International Research Programs. The chief administrator was the International Science and Technology Center, an intergovernmental organization that facilitates international science projects.
