Abstract
First established in 1909, the American Midland Naturalist is a peer-reviewed scientific journal currently edited and published by the University of Notre Dame. The journal is devoted to natural history, botany, and ecology, and is released on a quarterly basis. Although, when first founded by Julius Nieuwland, it was focused on the species and ecosystems of the North American Midwest, this is no longer accurate, as the journal's geographic coverage includes North America in its entirety, and other continents are occasionally featured as well.
