Abstract
About the Site
FAOSTAT is the Statistics Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. It compiles data - like annual yield and production value - on many essential crops from every country in the world. This allows trends to tracked over time. The data can easily be sorted by country, region, or world for quick comparison. FAOSTAT also collects relevant data on nutrition and hunger. For example, the number of undernourished people in the world has been steadily declining since 2005.
About the Organization
The main objective of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is global food security, thereby ensuring that people have access to healthy food and eradicating world hunger. It also promotes sustainable agriculture using science-based approaches. FAO's motto is fiat panis, which means "let there be bread" in Latin.
