Plant Physiological Ecology is a thorough examination of the complex relationship between individual plants and their physical, chemical, and biological surroundings. Chapin uses full-color illustrations to accompany the discussions about individual plants as well as their coping mechanisms when placed in different environments. To emphasize the connection of plants with the planet, discourse is also scaled up to a global scale, allowing the reader to appreciate the part plants have to play in the environment as a whole.
About the Author
F. Stuart Chapin III is an ecosystem ecologist who uses his extensive knowledge and prior research to help develop plans for humans to adapt to climate change. He was formerly Professor of Ecology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and is particularly interested in the effect that humans have on the global ecosystem. His previous work focuses particularly on climate change in Alaska and its effect on indigenous communities.
